You need to have had a steady job. Employment is a huge aspect of landlords approving your lease application. They go by points. For example, I got an apartment a few months ago with two roommates. Our landlord looked at our credit scores and we each got a point for good credit. Then, we each got a point if we had a job for over a year. They also look at your income and you need to make I think it's 3 times your share of a month's rent. Previous rental history is another. It really all depends. But getting a credit card isn't going to solve all of your problems. It takes years to build credit. But it sounds like you're on a good start.
